My friend Deirdre sent me this link and I thought I'd share it because so many people have asked me for up-do resources. The stylist is Johnny Lavoy from Ford Artists, and he has a series of how-to videos on easy up-dos that you and a friend could pull off for your wedding with a little practice. That's $300 you would have spent on a hair stylist saved for something else! Yay!

Sunday is the pre-wedding party my aunts and uncles are throwing us at my parent’s house. I promise pictures next week. I’m really looking forward to it. It should be a lovely day full of games, cookie baking and lots of lounging in the sun. I’ll keep this weeks post brief. I would like to wear a hair accessory for the wedding. I happen to have long curly dark brown hair so I’m not doing an up do; I’m going to leave my hair loose and flowing. I might like to clip up the sides with a flower clip though and I keep wavering between buying a fake one or just getting a gardenia and bobby pinning it in. I love natural flowers but is it going to wilt in a minute or fall off if I bop around? The fake ones I’m seeing are fun but they look really unnatural and I don’t know if that’s my look. I love the vintage Billy Holiday thing with a flower on one side. Any tips and suggestions are welcome. I would love some input. Thanks!

Pritty! Just east of Princess-ville, the gorgeous hair jewelry at Christina Garcia reminds me of something a hollywood starlet might wear on her wedding day. The feathery hair pin and the wreath are my favorites.

"Ooooooo". That's the most intelligent thing I can think to say. I'm totally star struck by these; the millinery, the photos, the beautiful lady with the pretty hair... (those were drooling ellipses). I've posted about Leah C before, but she has an entirely new (to me) section of bridal headpieces and blushers, all of which are just as stunning and photographed just as beautifully as these.

I was recently asked by a very good friend to recommend some "down-do's". Having seen so many nice ones lately on the red carpet, I thought I'd highlight a few. Side pony tails? OK. Why not? Lets do that again! I sort of missed that the first time around. Let's just promise to keep it low, people. Keep it low. I was shocked to see so many people with their hair down at the Oscar's last night and I must say, love the lack of fussy-fussy. Reese Witherspoon's bangs? Yes... good. Which (coincidentally) look a lot like my new fringe only hers are shinier and more famous.

These kind of make me want to cut my hair. I love the flapper vibe.
Alas, I have been growing my hair. When I decided to grow it out, I had a vibe in mind. An inspiration, if you will. Too bad I can no longer think of what that vibe was. Was it Tousled, Mediterranean and Timeless? I think, since the glow of summer has faded off of me like so much Herbal Essences Temporary Hair Color, "Mediterranean" is a stretch. Was it Long and Sleek with Sophisticated Blunt Bangs? If by sleek, you mean limp, then yes. That could have been it. But maybe, just maybe, it was Ponytail Everyday, Sometimes Ponytail-pulled-only-half-way-thru on Other Days. Yeah, that's the one. That's it alright. I've done it. I've achieved my vibe. Time for something new!

Can someone please bring back the mantilla comb? They're all over ebay, and I'm desperate to start wearing mine. Who's with me? (BTW, mine's not QUITE that big)

When I was trying on wedding dresses, the number one thing I'd hear people say, about me or anyone else in a big white dress was: "You look like a princess!". You may be asking yourself, "Why? Why would Mackenzie post these stupifyingly horrible hairdo's?" Why? Because I got a really good chuckle out of them this afternoon, and I really needed one of those today. I thought you could use a good laugh too.
Just think, even if the caterers are being jerks, and your mother is picking fights, and the florist doesn't know what "no carnations" means, you still won't have to walk down the aisle with any of these hairdos. Doesn't that just make you happy?

Yikes.

Mondays, it's a ponytail. Tuesdays, it's that flippy thing with the big clip. Wednesdays, we might blow dry. Thursdays and Fridays, back to the ponytail. When it comes to our hair, we don't get a chance to do anything really exciting or glamorous that often. So on the big day, why not do something really special? Lori London makes some gorgeous, vintage inspired pieces that work with any type of dress. They can also be a clever enhancement if you don't have enough hair to create that really full updo, or if your hair isn't as long as you'd like it to be.
