just one piece

onepiece
I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of one-piece bathing suits. I have literal worn a two-piece bathing suit 2 times in my whole life. It's not that I'm that self-conscious, it's just that I feel so naked in a bikini. It's like I'm in my undies! In public! Horrors! I'm a total prude at heart.
J. Crew has some great (and flattering I might add) options for all you like minded tummy-hiders out there. Not overly expensive, and they look like you could actually swim in them! Such a novel idea. I am in love with the gray retro sheath. If I were going on a honeymoon anytime soon, I would totally get that one and wear it with these.

certifiable

sharkdiving
I've decided that I want to cage dive with Great White sharks. I know what you are thinking in regards to my sanity, and you might be right. I'm still doing it.
I want an adventure! A wild story to tell my son! An adrenaline rush of a lifetime!
Unfortunately, these sorts of adventures are not free. My Mom has about 18-24 months to talk me out of it while I save up.
Anyone out there ever done this? Dare I ask if anyone is doing something like this on their honeymoon? Adventurers? Adrenaline junkies? Anyone?

four years and counting

yearfour
Four years ago yesterday, me and this guy got hitched in a loft in Hell's Kitchen, surrounded by all our friends and family. It's hard to put into words what he means to me. He's the cream in my coffee, the ketchup on my fries, the warmth of my favorite sweatshirt. He's all the good stuff.
The photo was taken on our one year anniversary, at a place called Mohonk in New Paltz, NY. Not sure why I never posted about that place before, but if you're looking for an amazing weekend getaway this fall, this is the place! As you can see, it's an enormous, crazy, eleborate, Victorian hotel nestled into a rocky mountain top, next to a pristine lake in the middle of leaf peeper's paradise. It's pretty cool.

honeymooooooooon

anthro bathing suits
I can't tell you how happy I am that they're making interesting one-piece bathing suits again. For a while there it was touch-and-go, with the tankinis and the bikinis and all the other 'kinis. These beauties from Anthropologie would be perfect for your honeymoon, or my summer vacation. Either one.

weathering the winter

Jakes
I guess winters here are no colder here than they were in Brooklyn, but somehow they feel more blustery, more treacherous. The incoming snow storm they keep talking about on the news probably isn't helping. When we were apartment dwellers all we ever had to do to prepare for snow and cold was put on a hat. Now we own a shovel. We have a driveway. We have pipes that could freeze. We got our gas bill yesterday (not good). The other day I told Dell to salt the steps to melt their dangerous icy coating. He used my fancy French sea salt. Now they are Steps de la Mer. I usually love winter, but winter this year is kind of stressing me out. SO, you can imagine how much I am loving the idea of daydreaming a bit on a tropical getaway.
Based on my inbox, it seems as though plenty of you are also sick of the cold, and are either planning destination weddings or looking for off-the-beaten-path honeymoon escapes. Jake's Resort fits the bill either way. I LOVE how quirky and indie this resort is; with the cute little villas, each one different from the next, the beautiful beaches, the snorkeling, and the poolside bar. And don't you kind of love the name? I bet Jake's has some very different kinds of Steps de la Mer. I think I might like his better.

destination destination

necker island
I know loads of you are planning destination weddings. From the questions and comments I get about far flung affairs, I'd say it was the next big thing! Chances are that if you're reading this website (whether you're having a backyard affair or a Tahitian Ball), you've probably already picked your wedding spot. But lemme ask you this: Have you decided on the honeymoon? Lesley Scott of Fashion Tribes has posted a fabulous list of the most fabulous destinations- all perfect for a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon experience.
The image above is from Necker Island, Sir Richard Branson's private island resort. I'd love to hear about it if anyone has been there. It sounds pretty awesome.

belabumbum

belabumbum
The name alone makes me want to wear them! Belabumbum. Aren't they sweet? Who wouldn't want to pack a few sets of these for the honeymoon? They also carry some pretty swimsuits if you're headed to someplace warm.

orla kiely travel bags

Bags. With cars on them. Perfect for travel, no? From Orla Kiely. Wouldn't dragging luggage around be so much more glamorous if your luggage looked like this?

honeymoons: a fabulous tradition.

BoraBora
Somehow, even though I just got back from a vacation, I can't stop daydreaming about a teak bungalow on the water with a hole in the floor thru which I can feed tropical fish. I read about this place where you can do just that, plus get your breakfast delivered by canoe every morning, and snorkel off your doorstep whenever you please. I'm thinking this may be the an ideal honeymoon scenario, you know... if you like sunshine... and relaxation. That kind of thing.

honeymoon!

a place for everything...

I love these little travel bags from Stephanie Johnson. I received a bunch of these from my mother-in-law for my bridal shower, and love, love, love them. I don't travel anywhere without them anymore. I have a seperate one for hair clippy's, nail care items, face wash, lotions, earrings... you all are laughing at me aren't you? I can hear it! Laugh it up, Chuckles. The only way I can explain the joy of these bags is to make sure you know just how much fun I have packing and organizing them. Unpacking them? Not so much. My nail care bag is still packed from a trip I took in August. Needless to say my nails are a little, mmmm. Yikes.
Check these out, they make wonderful gifts.

have necklace, will travel

I love these necklaces from Elizaldi. Each set comes with a sterling silver St. Christopher medallion or a starburst pendant, and a vintage stamp from any number of locales.
What a perfect gift from a groom to a bride as a memento of their honeymoon, or a gift from a bride to her bridesmaids, honoring their heritage. What a great idea. I love it.

treehouse resorts

This appeals to me on the most basic "Swiss Family" levels. I would have dragged my husband up a tree for our honeymoon had I known it was an option.
Here are a few amazing resorts to file away under "honeymoon" in the wedding binder.

Creek and Crag's Wild Canopy Reserve: Masinagudi, Tamilnadu, India. This treehouse has en-suite facilities and the reserve serves breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. The treehouse is situated above a watering hole so you can watch the elephants and tigers drink before you go to sleep! I think this would be my first choice.

Treehouse Village Eco Resort: Kavieng, New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. Following at a close second is this treehouse on the beach, complete with snorkeling, scuba diving, en-suite bathroom and hot shower. Meals are served in the canopy.

Cedar Creek Treehouse at Mt. Rainier: Ashford, Washington USA. Double beds, a kitchen, a bathroom, skylights, and an observation room make this eco-friendly place seem very enticing.

Takilma Treesort: Takilma, Oregon USA. A community of treehouses to choose from, some with private toilets, some without. All appear cozy and warm. Full breakfasts are provided during the high season.

nicole and keith get hitched

Those crazy celebs and their fantastic weddings! I really wanted to see Nicole's dress, but unfortunately, the pictures left a little too much to the imagination. Humph.
However, I did notice that the designer of the dress, Nicolas Ghesquiere (for Balenciaga), seems to have based at least the top portion on one of his designs from the Spring 2006 collection. Kudos on the one shouldered laciness! I'm thinking for Nicky he prally made it a little more bridal and a little less see-thru. Rumor has it, they're headed here for the honeymoon. Not that I care. But I do a little.

molokai ranch

I'm sitting here in my living room, feeling under the weather, listening to the torrential rain outside, watching QVC, and seriously contemplating buying a peridot cocktail ring. I actually think I might need that 4 carat ring! How the heck are they doing it? I don't know. Luckily my mister is here to stop me in case I actually go for the phone.
Anyway, to snap me out of it, let's talk about Hawaii. If you're looking for a "chillax'in" kind of honeymoon, a real break from the world, I'd go to the island of Molokai. The most traditionally Hawaiian of all the islands, this place is very secluded, sooo peaceful, and so not touristy. When my mister and I were there, we stayed at the Molokai Ranch, one of only two places to stay on the island. We camped out on the beach in "tent-alows" suspended above the sand. Our tent-alow had two rooms, a private bathroom, a queen size bed, and freshly laundered towels every morning. We were served sumptuous dinners each night on the beach, by the light of torches planted in the sand. Every single day we sat by the beach or the infinity pool, ordering mai-tais via pool side telephone. Other than that, we did nothing, and it was the best vacation ever!

huvafen fushi

One day, when I am rich, I will go here. I will sit (apres snorkeling) on the glass deck of my private ocean bungalow with my decadent tropical drink overlooking the calm waters of the deep blue Indian Ocean. I will summon my personal butler to fetch me crispy french fries with extra ketchup. I will turn to my husband, and I will say "I need nothing else from life." He will nod, and we will take naps.
